18th Annual Southwest Liver Disease Symposium- RNs, Residents, Fellows, Students

About the program:
The Annual Southwest Liver Disease Symposium highlights Banner Health’s commitment to improving the health of our patients and the dissemination of medical knowledge in our community. Our Advanced Liver Disease Center and Liver Transplant Program continue to grow at an extraordinary rate while delivering quality and compassionate care to a complex patient population.

In its' 18th year, the Annual Southwest Liver Disease Symposium will bring nationally- and internationally-renowned speakers to discuss current and relevant topics, including best practices for conditions that affect patients with liver disease.

Objectives:

Transplant Oncology-Nancy Ascher, MD, PhD:
1. Describe different types of cancers that would benefit from liver transplantation.
2. Recognize indications for liver transplantation in patients with liver metastasis not related to hepatocellular carcinoma.
3. Enumerate outcomes associated with transplants for non-hepatocellular carcinoma cancers.

Liver Lesions-Venkateswar Surabhi, MD:
1. Described radiologic characteristics of benign liver lesions.
2. Describe radiologic characteristics for malignant liver lesions.
3. Describe treatment and surveillance approach to benign and malignant liver lesions.

Hepatitis B-Marc Ghany, MD, MHS:
1. Describe current treatment options for chronic hepatitis B.
2. Describe the mechanism of action of new hepatitis B therapeutics.
3. Enumerate the new treatments focused on the cure of chronic hepatitis B.

Surgical Risk- Nadim Mahmud, MD, MS, MPH, MSCE:
1. Enumerate the different tools used for preoperative assessment of a cirrhotic patient.
2. Described the benefit of VOCAL Penn score.
3. Described the overall risk associated with cirrhosis related morbidity and mortality while undergoing surgery.

Artificial Intelligence- Ashley Spann, MD, MASCI:
1. List artificial intelligence tools utilized in the field of hepatology.
2. List artificial intelligence tools utilized in the field of liver transplantation.
3. Describe benefits of artificial intelligence application for clinical success in hepatology and liver transplantation.

Drug-Induced Liver Injury- Victor Navarro, MD:
1. Identify and describe clinical tools and models to diagnose drug-induced liver injury.
2. Describe the common medications associated with drug-induced liver injuries.
3. Enumerate current treatment options for patients presenting with drug-induced liver injury.

Portal Hypertension- Guadalupe Garcia-Tsao, MD, FRCP:
1. List new concepts in the management of portal hypertension.
2. Describe benefits of TIPS in the management of portal hypertension.
3. Describe new classification of portal hypertension.

Fatty Liver Disease MASLD- Fasiha Khanwal, MD, MSHS:
1. Describe diagnostic approach to patient with steatotic liver disease.
2. Describe the importance of identifying degree of fibrosis in patients with steatotic liver disease.
3. Enumerate current therapeutic approaches for patients with steatotic liver disease.

What to Wear:
Attendees should dress comfortably in business casual clothing. The symposium venue is air conditioned and it is sometimes difficult to keep a moderate temperature for all. We recommend that you bring a jacket or sweater.

Physician Education Credit:
Banner Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Information on education credit will be posted as it is approved.Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Education Credit Disclosure:
This activity has been submitted to Banner Health’s Continuing Education Professional Development Department for RN Continuing Education credits, contact hours are currently pending. Nurses: Banner Health is accredited as a provider of Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.

Cancellations:
Should you need to cancel your registration, a credit will be issued for next year’s liver disease symposium. Please note, Banner will not reimburse any accrued travel expenses.
