John Koster, MD, vice chair of the Banner Health Board of Directors, is an internist and emergency medicine physician who most recently served as president and CEO of Providence Health & Services, a large nonprofit based in Renton, Washington. Previously, he held senior leadership positions overseeing management of health insurance plans, hospital systems, medical groups and consulting practices.
In addition to Banner, Dr. Koster is a trusted advisor to hospital systems, health insurers, boards and health care technology companies across the nation. He also is a well-known author and contributor, having his works included in publications across the country.
Dr. Koster has frequently been included in Modern Healthcare magazine’s annual list of Most Influential Physician Executives.
Dr. Koster earned a bachel or’s in biology from New Mexico Tech and a medical degree from the University of New Mexico.
