Continuing Interprofessional Education (CIPE) Activities

As part of Banner Health’s vision to be recognized for clinical excellence and innovation, focusing more intently on interprofessional education will reinforce a team approach to patient care, which is better for patients and better for Banner.

To develop a workforce that thrives in this collaborative practice environment, Banner is encouraging continuing interprofessional education (CIPE), also known as interprofessional continuing education (IPCE). An interprofessional activity is continuing education (CE) that targets educational needs stemming from the identified practice gaps of the healthcare team and their members. Interprofessional activities are designed by the team, for the team.

The Difference Between Multiprofessional Education and Interprofessional Education

In multiprofessional education, attendees from various professions gather in the same room listening to a lecture intended to focus on the gap in patient care practice of a single profession– physicians, nurses, or pharmacists, for example.

Interprofessional education occurs when all the members of the healthcare team are on an equal footing and the CE activity is planned to address those team-based needs.

Banner Health will continue to work towards an integrated model of patient care and an interprofessional approach to continuing medical education. Please contact the Banner CME office at (480) 684-5560 or by e-mail if you are interested in developing an interprofessional CE activity involving physicians and other professions..
