We have an innovative clinical team supporting an active clinical program including disease state/symptom management, pharmacokinetics, parenteral nutrition, antimicrobial stewardship and pain management. Lastly, we also maintain affiliations with several schools of pharmacy both locally and across the country. Our Cancer Center Clinical Pharmacists provide a unique service that many people treated for cancer do not have the opportunity to receive. They are located within disease state specific clinics and consult with physicians and advanced practice providers on treatment decisions and adverse symptoms. Additionally, they provide supportive care recommendations and educate patients on treatment regimens, side effects and potential drug interactions. Areas of focus outpatient include stem cell transplant, breast medical oncology, gastrointestinal oncology, genitourinary oncology, gynecological oncology, leukemia, lymphoma/myeloma, benign hematology, melanoma/sarcoma and thoracic/head and neck oncology.
The infusion pharmacy located at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center compounds and provides services to the infusion treatment center. Chemotherapy regimens are meticulously checked and verified for accuracy before administration by our Infusion Pharmacists. Additionally, this pharmacy is involved with our clinical trials and preparation of investigational products.
The inpatient pharmacy at Banner Gateway provides comprehensive drug distribution services including unit dosing, IV admixtures and pharmacokinetic management. Pharmacists work from both the central pharmacy and decentralized locations on the hospital floors to provide safe and timely care.
Furthermore, our inpatient Clinical Pharmacists are integrated into the inpatient care teams. Areas of focus inpatient include stem cell transplant, critical care, medical oncology, internal medicine, leukemia, lymphoma/myeloma, infectious disease and nutrition support. Both locations also provide retail pharmacy services with our in-house Banner Family Pharmacies. The retail pharmacy housed within Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center provides specialty pharmacy services allowing for in-house prescribing and filling of specialty pharmacy medications allowing for complete continuity of care.
