Welcome to the Thyroid, Parathyroid and Adrenal Center, a multidisciplinary resource for patient care at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. 

We focus on conditions that affect the three most common endocrine organs: the thyroid gland, the calcium-regulating parathyroid glands, and the adrenal gland. As a group, our physicians have expertise in all aspects of care that you may need, including ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration biopsy performed in a comfortable office setting.

We are nationally and internationally recognized in Arizona and the Southwest for our expertise in medical and surgical endocrinology. These areas include: These areas include:

The Center diagnoses and treats conditions of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. Our team is dedicated to excellence in medical and surgical endocrinology, education and scholarship, and research and community service.

Sometimes endocrine conditions cannot be controlled by medical treatment alone. If surgical intervention is needed, we provide expert care, highly personalized service and state-of-the-art surgery for conditions affecting the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands and neuroendocrine system. 

Our endocrine surgeons are nationally and internationally recognized as experts in both routine, rare and complex surgical problems affecting the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. They specialize in these areas:

  • Thyroid - nodules/goiter, thyroid cancer, hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, molecular markers for thyroid cancer diagnosis.
  • Parathyroid - hyperparathyroidism, hypercalcemia, osteoporosis/osteopenia and kidney stones related to parathyroid disease, parathyroid disease due to renal disease, dialysis or kidney transplant, vitamin D deficiencies.
  • Adrenal conditions - incidentalomas, pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas, aldosteronomas, Cushing’s syndrome.
  • Genetic and hereditary endocrine conditions - multiple endocrine neoplasia type I and II, Cowden syndrome/PHTS/PTEN mutations, familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), familial thyroid cancer.
  • Ultrasound for all thyroid and parathyroid conditions including neck masses and lymph nodes, lymph node mapping for thyroid cancer, and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA).
  • Surgery for all of the above conditions, including operations performed for complex recurrent disease, specialized thyroid and lymph node surgeries, parathyroidectomy, adrenalectomy, and operations performed as minimally invasive surgery.

The physicians of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute are engaged in teaching and training of future health care providers via multiple programs.

The Thyroid, Parathyroid and Adrenal Center celebrates National Thyroid Awareness month in January by organizing month-long community events. These include interactive meet-the-expert sessions, lecture series, and ultrasound screening for populations at risk of hereditary thyroid conditions.
