GREELEY, Colo. (Aug. 3, 2021) – Banner Hospice of Northern Colorado welcomed more than 20 guests to its new Memorial Garden for a dedication event Friday saying the family members can visit the garden, remember their loved ones and feel a sense of home.
The Memorial Garden has been located off 11th Street Road in east Greeley adjacent to the former offices of Banner Hospice. When the hospice office moved, Banner leaders decided to move the garden to Banner’s Summit View Medical Commons at 71st Avenue and 20th Streets in west Greeley. The garden is south of the Summit View parking lot and features rose bushes, memorial benches and flagstones that were relocated from the previous garden.
Several Banner team members spoke at the dedication. Sue Sabas, social worker, has worked in hospice since 1995 and talked about the legacy of the program in northern Colorado. Even though the program has gone through several name changes, Sabas noted that the team has always provided outstanding patient care.
“Because of our staff,” she said. “That’s their passion. My journey has been fulfilling because I love what I do.”
Joyce Bulman, senior director of Banner Hospice and Palliative Care based in Arizona, said when people learn she works in hospice, they comment that it must be difficult. While many think that hospice is about working people who are dying, Bulman pointed out that the work is more about living and helping people have the best quality of life possible during the end-of-life process.
“It is an honor and a privilege,” she said
Banner Hospice offices are co-located with Banner Home Care at 5628 W. 19th St. Suite 2 in Greeley. The program provides high-quality, comprehensive, compassionate end-of-life care throughout northern Colorado. Hospice team members provide care to patients where they are whether that’s in the home, in independent or assisted living, skilled nursing facilities or hospitals. Care is available 24/7.
