Banner Olive Branch Senior Center offering free COVID-19 vaccines, flu shots

Shots, free transportation provided by National Council on Aging grant

SUN CITY, Ariz. (Aug. 30, 2023) – Seniors looking to protect themselves from respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19 and flu can get free vaccinations at Banner Olive Branch Senior Center beginning Sept. 6.

Free vaccinations will be offered at the center, 13049 N 103rd Ave., at six different clinics throughout mid-November.

“What we are really excited about is that for the first time ever, we will be offering people free transportation to the Banner Olive Branch for the vaccine clinics,’’ said Dawn Gielau, center director. “We want to make this as convenient as possible for our seniors.’’

Vaccinations and transportation are provided by a grant from the National Council on Aging for the COVID-19 and Influenza Vaccine Uptake Initiative. The program is supported with funding from the Administration for Community Living, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

According to the National Council on Aging, nine out of 10 deaths from COVID-19 are among people 65 and over, and 70-85% of seasonal flu-related deaths occur in older adults.

To combat that, Banner Olive Branch will offer vaccination clinics on these days: Pre-registration by calling (623) 465-600 is welcome but not required.
