Banner's Camp Scrubs is open for enrollment

Summer camp open to middle school students interested in health care careers

TUCSON (May 14, 2024) – Banner - University Medicine is accepting applications for Camp Scrubs 2024 that will take place this summer. The weeklong camp focusing on nursing and health care careers will run from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14 and will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Camp Scrubs is open to middle school students, those who will be entering the 7th or 8th grade in the fall. Students have to be interested in science, technology, teaching and helping others - the core skills needed to become a nurse. Registration is open to the public; spaces are limited and the cost is $400.

Camp Scrubs will be hosted by Banner Health registered nurses who will provide an opportunity for students to explore the many roles nurses play in caring for patients. Activities will include shadowing nurses on patient care units, learning about the important work nurses do, observing medical care departments and professionals that work with and support nursing.

“Careers in nursing provide wonderful opportunities to care for patients in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, homes, clinics, helicopters, and in disaster locations, and nurses have opportunities to work anywhere in the country,” said Melissa Davis, director of adult nursing at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.

The focus of this event is to have campers leave with a better understanding of the important role each health care team has when it comes to providing patient care.
