Banner Brain & Spine offered education to Hispanics on neurological conditions

PHOENIX (Oct. 30, 2024) – Banner Brain & Spine offered education about the neurological conditions that heavily impact the Hispanic community at a Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event.

During the event, Banner Brain & Spine provided education on conditions such as stroke and epilepsy and offered resources and support to people and families affected by these diseases.

The goal was to empower the Hispanic community with crucial, lifesaving information and promote better brain health through education and outreach; especially given that strokes are the fourth-leading cause of death for Hispanic men, and third-leading cause for Hispanic women, according to the American Stroke Association.

Banner Brain & Spine also showcased their partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation, with an altar dedicated to patients, family members, and loved ones who have passed away from neurological conditions. The altar had powerful statistics in regard to stroke and epilepsy to educate the community as they view the altar. The event was held Sunday at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix.

“It’s important to raise awareness about neurological conditions in the Hispanic community to ensure early diagnosis and the best care,” said Dr. Peter Nakaji, chair of neurosurgery at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix. “By increasing understanding, we can help improve the quality of life for those affected and provide better support for families dealing with the special challenges neurological conditions present.”
