TUCSON, Ariz. (July 30, 2024) – To ensure Tucson and surrounding communities have access to the most current, life-saving trauma care, the Banner – University Medicine trauma surgery team each year hosts the Southwest Regional Trauma Conference. This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the conference, which will be held August 1-2 at Casino Del Sol, 5655 W. Valencia Rd.
During the conference, registered emergency medical services and trauma professionals will have access to interactive learning on the most current research and advances in trauma and emergent care, including stabilizing injured persons and getting them to the appropriate level of care.
The conference will feature the stories of two former trauma patients who shared their experiences and gratitude for the emergency responders and hospital caregivers who helped saved their lives. Trauma experts also will provide updates in the fields of burn care, fractures, mental illness, wilderness medicine, spinal injuries, gun-related injuries, abdominal injuries and pediatric trauma.
The conference agenda includes the following workshop sessions:
Aug. 1
• 9:15-9:40 a.m.: Beyond bleeding and blood
• 10:15 – 10:40 a.m.: Spinal motion restriction
• 10:45 – 11 a.m.: Gun-related violence among children
• 11:20 – 11:30 a.m.: Grateful survivors
Aug. 2:
• 8:45 – 9:10 a.m.: Pediatric fractures – trampolines, ATVs and other bad ideas
• 10:15 - 10:45 a.m.: Physiologic effects of recreational drugs
• 3 - 3:25 p.m.: Severe mental illness in trauma patients
