Banner MD Anderson opens new infusion clinic for cancer patients

New outpatient center will include more than 16 infusion bays

GILBERT, Ariz. (Oct. 8, 2024) – Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at Canyon Springs, an outpatient clinic at Banner Gateway Medical Center, opened today in Gilbert. Previously a surgery center, the clinic has been re-created for cancer patients needing infusion treatments, but who are healthy enough to not need chemotherapy. The new clinic is on the Banner Gateway campus, which includes Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center.

“We are so excited to see Banner MD Anderson at Canyon Springs come to life. We realized earlier this year that this previous space had been under-utilized, particularly when our number of surgical operating rooms at Banner Gateway expanded,” said Darren McCollem, chief operating officer of Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and Banner Gateway Medical Center. “In addition, it was becoming more difficult to accommodate same-day appointments for our many infusion patients. This new space is truly a win-win for our patients and our staff.”

Six infusion bays are open, with plans to expand to at least 16 bays. In addition to more convenient access to less complex infusion treatment, the opening of Banner MD Anderson Canyon Springs helps reduce overall wait times. While waiting for treatment can be stressful, same-day access helps reduce that anxiety, allowing patients to focus more on recovery.

“Before the completion of Banner MD Anderson at Canyon Springs, our team was handling over 50 urgent symptom management infusion treatments daily—a significant challenge for our staff,” said Dr. Matthew Callister, senior physician executive for oncology at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. “Our patients needed easier access to care to be able to better manage the range of symptoms that can occur suddenly from cancer treatment. The opening of our new infusion space today helps tremendously.”

Banner MD Anderson Canyon Springs is open from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. To make an appointment with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, please call (928) 504-4257.
