PHOENIX, Ariz. (Sept. 29, 2023) - María Hert Ibarra came to the United States nearly three decades ago in search of better opportunities for both she and her family. For the past five years, she has worked as an EVS assistant at Banner Estrella Medical Center.
The mother of seven children and grandmother of one, is a talented artist who loves displaying her creativity through jewelry and engraved art. These hobbies have helped her connect with her culture and her homeland of Guadalajara, Mexico.
While she has embraced her life in the United States, María does miss her country of origin. She proudly talks about its vibrant culture, the mariachi music, and folkloric dancers. She misses the holiday celebrations spent with her family in Mexico and the exquisite Mexican cuisine that she grew up with - the flavors, spices, and aromas that hold a special place in her heart.
Maria is not only proud of her culture but is proud to say she has a family member that now works with her at Banner Estrella. Her daughter Yuliana recently joined the organization as a phlebotomist – a medical professional who is trained to do blood draws. Maria loves working for Banner Health, not only because of the support she receives from her leaders but also because she takes great pride in her work, ensuring that our patients have a clean and comfortable environment to recover in while they’re at the hospital.
