Banner Health Community Hospital recognized for outstanding trauma care

Torrington facility hits milestone with perfect survey score

TORRINGTON, Wyo. (Feb. 27, 2025) – Banner Health Community Hospital in Torrington proudly announces its successful renewal as a designated Community Trauma Receiving Facility after passing the state trauma survey with zero deficiencies. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the hospital, which has worked diligently to improve its trauma services and emergency care capabilities over the past year.

The hospital demonstrated exceptional preparedness through focused efforts on quality improvement and patient-centered care, earning a perfect score on the survey. This designation reaffirms that Community Hospital is more than just a “band-aid station” – but is a competent trauma facility equipped to handle emergencies efficiently and effectively. The Banner hospital is essential in the initial stages of care for patients who have sustained injuries or who present with other trauma-related conditions. The staff is expertly trained to offer stabilization and initial assessment before potentially transferring patients to specialized locations if needed.

“Our emergency department is the first line of defense for trauma patients in our region,” said Ingrid Long, RN, chief executive officer of Community Hospital. “We have an astute nursing staff, eight dedicated emergency department providers, six nurses and six emergency department technicians who are fully prepared to manage urgent patient needs. We know how to get patients stable quickly and, if necessary, transfer them to higher levels of care without delay.”

The hospital has recently experienced increased numbers of patients from Nebraska, reinforcing its growing reputation as a trusted regional trauma center. Additionally, improvements in emergency room wait times over the past year have made access to care more efficient for patients in need. In 2024, the emergency department recorded 4,620 patient visits, with satisfaction scores reaching as high as 100.

The hospital trauma team, led by Dr. Ezdan Fluckiger, medical director of the emergency department, meets regularly to review quality measures and ensure continued excellence in patient care, incorporating High Reliability Organization principles to enhance safety and performance in a high-risk environment.

“We take our role as a trauma-receiving facility very seriously,” Dr. Fluckiger said. “Our focus remains on delivering the highest quality of care with a patient-centric approach. By continuously evaluating and improving our services, we are ensuring that our community receives the best emergency care possible.”

Beyond trauma care, Community Hospital is committed to being a proactive and trustworthy health care leader in the community through educational efforts for public safety awareness. During a recent safe kids event, nearly 1,000 bicycle helmets were donated throughout the community to promote head injury prevention. In addition to trauma care, Banner Health Torrington offers several specialty clinics for care after an emergency room visit.
