Washakie Medical Center awarded $94,020 through COVID-19 Health Disparity Grant

WORLAND, WY (October 11, 2023) – Washakie Medical Center has been awarded $94,020 from the Addressing Basic Needs and Social Determinants of Health Program Grant Program, which is part of the COVID-19 Health Disparity Grant Program.

Wyoming has dedicated $8.1 million of federal funding to help eligible entities build up the health care infrastructure and address historical inequities in their communities. The funding is part of Wyoming’s $38.8 million allocation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for its COVID-19 Health Disparities Grant. The Align Team manages this portion of the COVID-19 Health Disparities Grant for the Wyoming Department of Health.

With this generous funding, will offer a 12-month health educational series consisting of paid public service announcements (newspaper ads, ads in local theaters and the chamber of commerce, and spots on local radio stations) about recommended health screenings and where to access services on topics including women's health, breast cancer screening, prostate cancer screening, lung cancer screening, cardiovascular health/blood pressure screening, diabetes screening, bone and joint health, routine wellness labs, influenza vaccination, occupational safety/ergonomics, and concussion services thereby promoting and marketing available services and support in the community. The topics in the series directly tie to the themes, leading causes of death, and the identified health behaviors and clinical care needs in Washakie County.
