The T.W. Lewis Melanoma Center of Excellence at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of melanoma, with a vision to become the leading center for melanoma care in the Southwest.
Since opening in 2017, the Center has served more than 1,000 new patients and counting. The American Cancer Society estimates there will be more than 2,900 new cases of melanoma in Arizona this year. With 90% of melanoma diagnoses related to sun exposure, and Arizona being the sunniest state in the U.S., there is no better place to wage war on this disease.
The T.W. Lewis Melanoma Center of Excellence offers a full range of services, including medical, surgical, radiation and integrative oncology, diagnostic and interventional radiology, research and clinical trials, pathology and dermatopathology, rehabilitation and genetic counseling.
According to SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results) program data, which is part of the National Cancer Institute, Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in the United States. With a pathological diagnosis of melanoma (early to late stage), patients at the T.W. Lewis Melanoma Center of Excellence are treated in a multidisciplinary setting, using evidence-based treatment plans. Our team of experts work together to meet the individual needs of each patient. With all services at one location, our skin cancer experts can truly treat the whole person – not just the disease.
