A movement screen, sometimes called a Functional Movement Screen (FMS), is a way to analyze movement patterns and observe mobility and stability deficits. The purpose of a functional movement screen is to help Banner Health clinicians and therapists identify any limitations or asymmetries that may increase your risk of injury.
Screening helps ensure that you have a solid movement foundation and can take on more complex exercises or demanding activities.
Because a movement screen, or functional movement screen, is simply a measurement tool, anyone can benefit from an evaluation. You do not need to be an athlete to have a movement screen.
Our team is certified in FMS, Fusionetics(R), a 2D motion capture tool, and dorsaVi™ Movement Suite and dorasVi™ Athletic Movement Index, methods that use 3D wireless and wearable sensors.
During your FMS screen, you’ll be asked to perform specific exercises that require mobility and stability. These movements may include:
The evaluation may also include an assessment of your posture and shoe wear patterns. After the screen, you’ll receive a detailed report and video analysis and be provided with a customized corrective exercise program.
We’re here to answer any questions you may have before, during or after your movement screen. Our goal is to provide you with the best care at every stage of your health care journey.
