Aquatic Therapy Program

For some conditions, the ideal place for treatment is in the water. Moving in water can be a soothing way to complement traditional therapies. Aquatic therapy is an increasingly popular type of physical therapy and we are proud to offer it at several of our locations.

What Is Aquatic Therapy?

Banner's aquatic therapy program is a form of physical therapy that takes place in water, typically a pool, that is temperature-regulated. Other names for aquatic therapy include aquatic physical therapy, pool therapy, water therapy, aquatic rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.

Who Can Benefit from Aquatic Therapy?

People of all ages can benefit from aquatic therapy hydrotherapy. It can be particularly helpful to those who may not be able to comfortably perform exercises on land due to injury, disability or other mobility issues. Because the water helps support your body, aquatic therapy can allow you to achieve greater control over movements with less pain.

Often, the goal of aquatic therapy is to progress you to a land-based therapy program.

The types of exercises you will perform during and aquatic therapy session will depend on your reason for treatment, but you can expect to receive direction on a variety of movements in each session. You may also use pool accessories such as:

  • Flotation rings
  • Pool “noodles”
  • Weights or barbells
  • Resistance bands
  • Kickboards

Our specially-trained aquatic therapists are here to help you achieve your goals in a safe, supportive environment. If you have any questions about aquatic therapy benefits, we’d be happy to talk to you.
