Banner Poison and Drug Information Center, located in Phoenix, Arizona, provides vital information to the local community. The center provides free, 24-hour-a-day emergency telephone service for both residents and medical professionals of Maricopa County.
In 2015, the Poison Center handled almost 70,000 incoming calls and made more than 100,000 follow-up calls.
It is estimated that the Poison Center saved the community more than $35 million in emergency treatment costs, as more than 75 percent of those who called the Center were able to have their poisonings taken care of without a trip to the Emergency room.
Our Education and Outreach department participated in more than 100 health fairs and presentations to the public/health care community in 2015, with over 130,000 poison prevention materials distributed.
