The Banner MD Anderson’s Clinical Research Division was formed in 2015 with the goal of building a premier cancer research program that would enable clinical investigators to conduct cutting-edge research in a safe and ethical manner. Founded on the expertise and resources of both Banner Research and MD Anderson Research, and together with regional and national community and academic partners, we facilitate high-impact collaborative projects to elevate the quality of cancer care. Since 2016, over 1,500 patients have participated in nearly 250 clinical trials, with 17 of these trials resulting in new cancer drug approvals by the FDA.
In 2016, Banner MD Anderson was the first site in the greater Phoenix, Arizona, area to participate in a CAR-T cell clinical trial. Since then, our research program has enrolled numerous patients in CAR-T cell clinical trials. Through our research, Banner MD Anderson was able to provide access to a potentially curative treatment prior to FDA approval.
Focusing on increasing the diversity of patient populations, expanding data collection and improving novel treatments with new scientific insights, Banner MD Anderson has recently opened a Phase 1 Clinical Research and Infusion Unit. This investment expands the capacity to conduct innovative clinical research in early therapeutics by providing a specialized space to closely monitor patients enrolled in first-in-human and early therapeutic trials.
