Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery, or more accurately robotic assisted surgery, is a form of minimally invasive surgery that results in a quicker recovery time. Guided by a skilled surgeon, our robotic procedures offer a safe and effective surgery option.

da Vinci Surgical Robotic System

Banner Health uses the da Vinci Surgical Robotic System, which allows the surgeon to work with four interactive robotic arms along with a high-performance vision system to perform surgeries.

Sitting at a surgical console, the surgeon directs the robot's long spindly arms to easily get into hard-to-reach areas and make dime-sized incisions. The robotic surgical system cannot be programmed, nor can it make decisions on its own. There is always a highly skilled surgeon at the helm.

Robotic Surgery vs. Traditional Surgery

Robotic surgery utilizes the same tools and small incisions as traditional surgery, but with the assistance of a robotic arm. Robotic surgery gives surgeons more accuracy and precision during a surgery, which can lead to a quicker recovery and minimal bleeding compared to traditional surgery options.

What are the benefits of robotic surgery?

With robotic surgery, recovery time is lessened. Surgical patients who once faced several weeks in recovery can often be back on their feet within days. Other benefits of this type of surgery may include:

  • Reduced blood loss and need for transfusions
  • Less pain and discomfort
  • Less risk of infection
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Faster recovery and return to normal daily activities
  • Less scarring
