No matter what type of surgery you need, our experts are ready to support you. As you prepare for your procedure, your surgeon and care team will be on hand to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable and prepared.
Once you and your doctor decide surgery is the best option for you, we’ll help you take care of the details so you feel ready, both physically and mentally. We’ll guide you through the process and focus on making your procedure as efficient as possible.
Your comfort is one of our biggest priorities as you prepare for surgery. We want to make sure you feel ready. Patients tend to feel less anxious about surgery the more they know about the procedure. You may not have all the questions you want to ask ready when you learn you’ll need surgery. Keep a list of all the questions you want to ask your doctor before your procedure. If you need anything answered immediately, contact your doctor. We want to empower you with answers every step of the way.
Being mentally prepared right before your surgery can also help keep you calm in the waiting area before your procedure. Whether it’s listening to your favorite music, a good book, using guided imagery or scent therapy, having something to keep you comfortable during surgery can be an important step. We encourage you to discuss this step with your doctor so you can bring anything you may need with you on the day of surgery.
Your surgery preparation may include things like fasting prior to surgery or adjusting your current medications. You may also need to have lab testing prior to your procedure.
To check on your physical health, your doctor may order additional tests, such as blood work or X-rays before your surgery. These tests are important to determine if you are healthy enough to undergo anesthesia and a surgical procedure. Your doctor will let you know how soon they need these tests results before your surgery.

A nurse will contact you within a week of surgery to review your health history and any medicines you take. The nurse will also discuss what you need to do to prepare prior to surgery. He or she will also go over what to expect on the day of surgery as well as discharge and recovery information. This time is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions and discuss any concerns.
Additionally, your doctor will provide some specific instructions to follow before surgery. You can use our pre-surgery checklist to help you keep track of what you need to know and do before your procedure.
Before surgery, we’ll also ask you to register with Banner Health and provide your contact and insurance information.
You can also pre-register to save time before your procedure. If you can’t pre-register, please call the hospital or surgery center to find out what they require or simply complete the registration paperwork on the day of your surgery.
Banner Health’s world-renown surgical team is here to support you with the treatment and care you need.
