Psycho-Oncology addresses the two major psychological dimensions of cancer: the psychological responses to cancer at all stages of the disease and the psychological, behavioral and social factors that can influence the disease process.
Cancer affects both the body and the mind. A cancer diagnosis causes anxiety and depression in more than one-third of patients. This diagnosis also has a profound effect on the function of a family. Through psycho-oncology, patients can learn how to address the stresses of medical treatment, their emotional needs, coping with the pain, insomnia, relationships, caregiving and any other issues that patients and their families may face during and after a cancer diagnosis.
