DOT Medical Exams

Banner Occupational Health  has licensed providers registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to perform Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examinations.  These exams help determine if drivers are physically, mentally and emotionally fit to operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) and are required every 24 months for individuals with a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

We help keep commercial drivers healthy and on the job by following all DOT physical requirements. The exam includes a review of medical history, vital sign check and a physical examination of the:

  • Back and spine
  • Ears and hearing
  • Extremities, including arms, legs, hands, and feet
  • Eyes
  • Heart
  • Hernias, if any
  • General health appearance
  • Lungs and chest
  • Nervous system
  • Mouth and throat

If you have insulin-treated diabetes (type 1 or 2) or monocular vision (can only see with one eye), additional testing will be conducted as required by the DOT and included in your medical exam.

Once completed, your DOT exam results are reported electronically to the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME). Upon certification, you will receive a Medical Examiner's Certificate (also called a DOT Medical Card) to submit to your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
