HEDIS® (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set)

BHP is committed to quality improvement in healthcare services. We are dedicated to ensuring members receive the best possible care and services. Annually, the organization evaluates its performance, sets goals for care and services and develops improvement plans if goals are not met.

We use HEDIS standards to measure if our members are getting the care they need. HEDIS is used across the country to compare health plan performance.

BHP strives to continuously improve access to quality healthcare for our members. By offering a large network of providers that work collaboratively with physician specialists throughout our network and community of preferred providers, members have optimal access to quality services and provider options.

What is HEDIS?

HEDIS is a set of standardized performance measures developed and updated annually by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). It is one of healthcare’s most widely used performance improvement tools. HEDIS measurement allows consumers to compare health plan performance to other plans and to national or regional benchmarks. BHP uses these measurements to evaluate the quality of the care and services given to our members and to track year-to-year performance. HEDIS is one component of NCQA's accreditation process required by state regulators.

HEDIS Measures

HEDIS includes more than 90 measures across 6 areas of care, including:

  • Effectiveness of care
  • Access/availability of care
  • Experience of care
  • Utilization and risk adjusted utilization
  • Health plan descriptive information
  • Measures reported using electronic clinical data systems (ECDS)

You can find our HEDIS scores and compare them to other health plans on the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System website.
